Vanishing cycles and non-classical parabolic cohomology
The work described here began as an attempt to understand the structure of the cohomology groups associated to a subgroup ? of nite index of SL 2 (Z) which are not congruence subgroups. One knows that to the space of cusp forms of weight w > 2 on ? (whose dimension we denote by d) one can 15] attach a motive M, which is pure of weight w?1 and of rank 2d, deened over some number eld; it is a dir...
متن کاملNon-vanishing on the first cohomology
— It is shown here that, for any finitely generated lattice r in certain semi simple groups over local fields of positive characteristics, H (r. Ad) is nonvanishing; this is in sharp contrast with the situation in characteristic zero. Let Kbe a local field (i. e. a non-discrete locally compact field), and let G be a connected semi simple algebraic group defined over K. Let G = G (K), and let r ...
متن کاملFinitely Bounded Effective Computability
One of the most important property of the computability is the certainty. For example a set of natural numbers is computable if there is a Turing machine which decides certainly if a given natural number belongs to the set or not, and no wrong answers are tolerant. On the other hand, the finitely bounded computability discussed in this paper allows finitely many mistakes which can be eventually...
متن کاملVanishing up to the Rank in Bounded Cohomology
We establish the vanishing for non-trivial unitary representations of the bounded cohomology of SLd up to degree d− 1. It holds more generally for uniformly bounded representations on superreflexive spaces. The same results are obtained for lattices. We also prove that the real bounded cohomology of any lattice is invariant in the same range.
متن کاملCombinatorial Covers and Vanishing Cohomology
We use a Mayer–Vietoris-like spectral sequence to establish vanishing results for the cohomology of complements of linear and elliptic hyperplane arrangements, as part of a more general framework involving duality and abelian duality properties of spaces and groups. In the process, we consider cohomology of local systems with a general, Cohen– Macaulay-type condition. As a result, we recover kn...
